A Toronto motorcyclist in his 40s has died following a serious collision in Scarborough. Toronto police say the crash happened on Orton Park Road, just south of Ellesmere Road, during the early evening hours.
CBC News Toronto says the motorcycle and another vehicle were travelling northbound when they collided. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and crashed into a tree. Emergency crews performed life-saving measures at the scene, but the victim was pronounced dead shortly afterward.
Police believe speed may have been a factor in the collision. Investigators say the motorcycle was reportedly weaving through traffic before the crash. The driver of the other vehicle was not physically injured.
If you have any information about this incident, please contact the Toronto Police Service or your local police division. Even small details or dashcam footage could help investigators determine exactly what happened.
Safety Notes: Preventing Motorcycle Accidents
- Always ride your motorcycle at a safe and controlled speed in all parts of Toronto
- Avoid weaving through traffic or making aggressive lane changes
- Wear proper protective gear, including a certified helmet
- Stay visible to other drivers, especially at intersections and during lane changes
- Drivers should always double-check blind spots for motorcycles
- Leave enough space between vehicles to allow time to react
- Stay alert and avoid distractions while driving or riding
Motorcycle accidents are typically severe because riders have very little protection during a collision. Even a small mistake at high speeds can lead to life-changing or fatal injuries.
Speeding and aggressive riding dramatically increase the risk of losing control, especially on busy Toronto roads where traffic patterns can change quickly. These crashes can leave families facing emotional trauma, financial stress, and unanswered questions.
