Safety Notes:
- Always come to a complete stop at rural intersections, even when traffic appears light
- Reduce speed on country roads, where unexpected hazards and cross-traffic can appear suddenly
- Avoid distractions while driving, because a moment of inattention at an intersection can have fatal consequences
- Passengers, especially young children, should always be properly secured in age-appropriate car seats
- If you are involved in or witness a collision, remain at the scene and contact emergency services immediately
Collisions at rural intersections are among the most serious on Ontario roads, and can lead to deadly consequences. The lack of traffic signals, high travel speeds, and reduced visibility at crossroads all contribute to severe outcomes. This tragedy is a sobering reminder of the responsibility every driver carries when behind the wheel.
