A serious Highway 401 accident in Oshawa sent two people to hospital after a car struck a disabled tractor-trailer.
The collision happened shortly before 4 p.m. on September 3, 2026, in the westbound lanes of Highway 401. According to Ontario Provincial Police, the tractor-trailer had broken down and was partially blocking an active lane when a passenger vehicle hit it from behind.
The driver of the car suffered serious, life-threatening injuries and was transported to a trauma centre. A passenger in the car was taken to a local hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. The truck driver was not hurt.
Police closed Highway 401 westbound between Highway 418 and Harmony Road while officers investigated. The highway reopened later that night.
Police are also asking witnesses or anyone with dashcam footage of the collision to come forward.
