Two people were taken to hospital after a two-vehicle collision near Yorkdale Shopping Centre in North York on Sunday night.
Emergency crews were called to Dufferin Street and Yorkdale Road shortly before 8:45 p.m. on September 20, 2026. Video from the scene appeared to show a T-bone collision in the middle of the intersection.
Paramedics assessed three people at the scene. Two were taken to hospital with non-life-threatening injuries. No further details about the people involved or the cause of the crash were immediately available.
While the injuries were not considered life-threatening, even a seemingly moderate Toronto car accident can leave someone dealing with pain, medical appointments, time away from work and insurance questions.
Why Can T-Bone Accidents Cause Serious Injuries?
A T-bone accident, also called a side-impact collision, happens when the front of one vehicle strikes the side of another.
These crashes can be dangerous because there is less space between the point of impact and the people inside the vehicle.
Side-impact collisions may cause concussions, whiplash, fractures, shoulder injuries, back injuries and other trauma. Some symptoms may not become obvious until hours or days after the crash.
Anyone experiencing new or worsening symptoms after a North York car accident should seek appropriate medical attention.
Who Is at Fault in a T-Bone Collision in Ontario?
People involved in intersection crashes often ask: Who is responsible for a T-bone accident?
There is no single answer.
Fault may depend on traffic lights, right-of-way, vehicle movements and the actions of each driver.
For example, investigators may examine whether a vehicle entered the intersection against a red light, failed to yield while turning or otherwise entered another vehicle’s path.
Those are general examples. The cause of the collision near Yorkdale has not been publicly established.
Evidence can help provide answers. This may include dashcam footage, witness statements, photographs, vehicle damage and surveillance video.
What Should You Do After a Car Accident in North York?
The minutes after a crash can be confusing. Once immediate safety concerns have been addressed, try to document as much as possible.
Take photographs of the vehicles, damage and surrounding area if it is safe to do so. Exchange the required information and get contact details from witnesses.
Keep your medical documents and receipts. If injuries cause you to miss work, keep records showing your lost income.
You should also save emails and other correspondence from insurance companies.
These records can become important if you later make an Ontario car accident claim.
Can You Get Accident Benefits After a Toronto Car Accident?
People injured in Ontario motor vehicle accidents may have access to Statutory Accident Benefits, even when they caused the collision.
The benefits available depend on the person’s injuries, circumstances and applicable insurance coverage.
This is separate from a lawsuit against an at-fault driver.
Someone injured in a North York motor vehicle accident may also have questions about medical and rehabilitation expenses, income replacement and other available benefits.
Ontario’s auto insurance system changed on July 1, 2026, making some benefits optional. As a result, the actual insurance policy should be reviewed when determining what coverage is available.
Can You Sue After a T-Bone Accident in Ontario?
If another driver’s negligence caused or contributed to your injuries, you may have grounds for a personal injury claim, subject to Ontario law.
The seriousness of a claim is not determined by how damaged the vehicles look.
What matters is how the accident affected the injured person.
Did you miss work? Do you need physiotherapy? Are you experiencing headaches or concussion symptoms? Has your mobility changed? Are you unable to participate in activities you previously enjoyed?
These factors can help determine the impact of an injury and what compensation may be available.
